I’m Home

June 14, 2011

I’ve started a couple of more interesting posts, but not finished them, and then this crossed my radar. I posted a link to the book when it came out. Now, Samuel L. Jackson reads it.

I wish the book had been around when I was dealing with this bullsh*t. Parenthood in reality is so different from the way “they” say it will be.

This book makes me sad. I’m glad my father was patient with me while I struggled to turn off my little brain and go to sleep.
Yes, there were desperate times when my children wouldn’t sleep, and I wanted to pull my (or their) hair out. But they heard stories, or lullabies, or stony silence, or strong admonitions — not words like this — to fall asleep on.

    • What you are saying resonates as true, but when I played the video for my kid, she cracked up. I think seeing the whole bedtime routine from the parent’s perspective was mind-blowing to her.
